The Prophets
little brown birds pecking
at the ground
blending in with the dust
darting to and fro —
no one notices.
the sparrows and swallows
nest at God’s altar
not the majestic eagles
nor the hawks nesting
at the high places
looking down for prey
as if anything that moves
was made for their benefit.
the arrogant peacock
splendid in its display
or the loud, colorful parrot
has not been mentioned
as parading before the
altar of the great high King
the Creator over heaven and earth
the sparrow humbly bows its head
the little bird close to the ground
knowing not to lift its head
in honor to the all Knowing —
all Seeing God and Lord over all
His flock of sparrows
awaits His Command
requesting, “Send me, I will go!”
and send them He does
to the farthest ends of the earth —
but who listens to sparrows?
