The Perfected Man

the greater jihad — is the battle humans have with their egos (arabic — nafs); it is to transform into the highest level or spiritual potential that a human can attain. As the Qur’an states, to climb the “crooked path” or the more difficult path, is like hiking switchbacks up a mountain. The “crooked path” is to take care of orphans, feed the hungry, take care of the needy and those suffering. It is to not place self first, and to avoid the seeking of overabundance, wealth, power, and status.

his heart
filled with love
instead of ego

became a blazing fire
riding his steed
into battle

a Lion of Islam
the battle cry
encompassed within his soul-
Allahu Akabar!

nothing can stop
such a soul-
not even death.

He prostrates at heaven’s door
opening.
